Biography:
Lara Stables is the physicist and manager for the Neuroscience Imaging Center. She studied NMR/MRI under John Gore as a graduate student at Yale University, where her Ph.D. research investigated the effects of susceptibility inhomogeneities on image contrast, particularly in the context of BOLD imaging. She also investigated the effects of J-coupling on fat in spin echo images.
Dr. Stables did her postdoctoral fellowship with Gary Glover at Stanford University's Lucas MRI Center where she customized spiral pulse sequences and image reconstruction programs used to evaluate breast cancer with MRI. She got involved with brain imaging when she joined Mike Weiner's group at the San Francisco VA's Center for Imaging of Neurodegenerative Diseases. Her research there focused on high-field (4T) structural and susceptibility-weighted imaging, with an emphasis on their use in the early detection of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
